Companies whose Insiders Sold the Most Stock this Year

While entertainment and technology seem to dominate business headlines, the executives and major investors cashing in big bucks come from decidedly less sexy enterprises like Brixmor , the commercial real estate investor whose insiders sold more than $6.6 billion, and Aramark , the foodservice, facilities, and clothing supplier, with nearly $4.8 billion in insider sales from January through May this year.

Paycom Software , the maker of payroll and human resources software comes in at number three with insiders selling nearly $4 billion this year, and Burlington Stores , otherwise known as Burlington Coat Factory, comes in at number four, with more than $2 billion in insider sales.

This list is compiled from Forms 4, documents required to be filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission when certain corporate executives and large shareholders receive, sell, gift or otherwise transact company stock, options, warrants and other securities. Sqoop indexes SEC filings as soon as they are published, as well as patent applications and grants, and federal court actions, so that journalists can easily search them and create alerts based on companies, technologies and other factors they are interested in tracking.

It is worth noting that in the case of Brixmor, the most significant Forms 4 are sales that represent payments to other investment entities, not individuals, which very likely could be the routine manner by which they return proceeds to their investors.
